.tr and .com.tr WHOIS Lookup
Read the TRABIS record of any .com.tr, .org.tr, .edu.tr, .gov.tr or direct .tr domain: registrar, dates, nameservers and holder. Type a bare name and .com.tr is added.
Examples: turkcell.com.trmetu.edu.trgoogle.com.trturkiye.gov.tr
TRABIS: the .tr registry
whois.trabis.gov.trTRABIS (the “.tr” Network Information System) holds the registration of every
.tr domain and is run by Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority
(BTK). It opened on 14 September 2022. Before that, nic.tr at Middle East
Technical University (METU) ran .tr registrations for about three decades; WHOIS lookups that used to go to
nic.tr have moved to TRABIS since.
Under TRABIS you register through an accredited registrar, not with the registry itself, and the WHOIS record names the registrar that holds the domain. The .tr registry publishes no RDAP and outbound port 43 is closed on this server, so this service reads .tr records from TRABIS's public web WHOIS and shows them in the same layout as every other extension. The raw record text sits at the foot of the result page.
Open (document-free) .tr extensions
11 extensionsThese extensions are allocated first come, first served, with no document required. The move
to TRABIS dropped the document rule that .com.tr, .net.tr and .org.tr
had carried for years, and after priority periods for existing holders, direct .tr
(e.g. example.tr) opened to everyone too.
Documented .tr extensions
9 extensionsThese are allocated only to the institutions or professions they are named for, against a document proving the entitlement. That is why the WHOIS record of an .edu.tr or .gov.tr name usually shows the institution itself.
| Extension | Who it is for |
|---|---|
| .av.tr | Lawyers |
| .bel.tr | Municipalities |
| .dr.tr | Physicians |
| .edu.tr | Universities |
| .gov.tr | Government bodies |
| .k12.tr | Schools |
| .kep.tr | Registered e-mail (KEP) providers |
| .pol.tr | Police |
| .tsk.tr | Turkish Armed Forces |
What a .tr WHOIS record shows
- Registrar — the TRABIS registrar that holds the domain.
- Dates — creation and expiry; the result page also works out the time left.
- Nameservers — which servers answer the domain's DNS.
- Registrant — the holder's or organisation's name shows on most records. Address, phone and email can be withheld at the holder's request, which TRABIS prints as Hidden upon user request.
When TRABIS answers “Müsait” (available), the name is not registered and the result page says so plainly. Next to the registration data you also get the domain's live DNS, mail security (SPF, DMARC), TLS certificate, HTTPS response and the abuse history of its hosting addresses on ip-db.com.

Common questions about .tr domains
Does nic.tr WHOIS still work?
.tr registrations moved from nic.tr at METU to TRABIS, run by BTK, on 14 September 2022. A .tr domain's WHOIS record now lives in TRABIS, and the lookup on this page reads it straight from there.
Do I need documents for a .com.tr domain?
No. Since the move to TRABIS, the open extensions — .com.tr, .net.tr and .org.tr among them — are allocated first come, first served, without documents. Documented extensions such as .edu.tr, .gov.tr, .av.tr and .k12.tr still need proof of entitlement.
Can I register directly under .tr?
Yes. After priority periods for existing holders, direct .tr names (like example.tr) opened to everyone and are allocated first come, first served, like the other open extensions.
How do I find out who owns a .tr domain?
Type the domain into the box on this page. The TRABIS record usually shows the holder's or organisation's name; address, phone and email may be withheld at the holder's request. The registrar is always shown, and it is the way to reach a holder you cannot contact directly.
How can I tell whether a .com.tr name is available?
Look it up. If TRABIS answers “Müsait” (available), the name is not registered and the result page says so plainly; under an open extension any TRABIS registrar can register it for you. If it is taken, you see the registrar and the creation and expiry dates.
