About this extension
One of the original generic extensions, opened in 1985, and today the largest namespace on the internet. Verisign runs the registry. .com is a thin registry: Verisign's record carries only the registrar, dates, status codes and nameservers, while registrant data sits on the registrar's own RDAP server. This service queries both and merges them into one record.

What a .com WHOIS record shows
The result page shows the registry's RDAP record, merged with the registrar's own RDAP answer: registrar and IANA id, abuse contact, dates, explained EPP status codes, nameservers and DNSSEC. Since ICANN retired the classic WHOIS requirement at the start of 2025, RDAP is the authoritative source for .com; an individual registrant's personal details are usually redacted.
Next to the registration data you get live DNS, SPF/DMARC, the TLS certificate, the HTTPS response and the abuse
history of the hosting addresses on ip-db.com. Type just a name
(e.g. example) and .com is added; the same data is available from the JSON API.
